If you’re politically engaged at all you no doubt have been urged to run for office. In fact, we at The Guerrilla Politic have been shouting it from the rooftops for years.
But what if you don’t want to? What if the idea of running for office is about as appealing as a root canal? Should you just tune out and disengage? Of course not. In fact, just like a root canal, politics only gets worse when you ignore it. Like it or not, your community, your county, your state, and your country needs you.
It may not feel like it with all the COVID still going around, but it’s a new year! Time for new goals, life-changing resolutions, or maybe just surviving wave 5?...6?...infinity? of the pandemic with your sanity semi-intact. For those who’ve ever wanted to run for office, though–especially those of us who struggle with “imposter syndrome”–good news! 2022 is our year. Here’s why.
Right now someone who thinks masks are tyranny and racism is a myth is putting together their campaign for your kid's school board, for your city council, for your state legislature. Across the country, people who participated in the Insurrection on the Capital on January 6, 2021, who don’t believe in our election integrity are running for office. And still, more locally, current elected officials in Oakland County, hiding behind their PAC,s are using racist dog whistles to galvanize their base for donations and ignite would-be office-holders.
